How's It's All Coming Along

Here are my Learning Objectives:

  • Apply my knowledge of Adobe 1.5 to edit down my show and touch it up.
  • Learn how to upload my podcast on Pod bean and share it on my Facebook and iTunes page.
  • Inform people about the decline of discipline shown by professional players.
  • Use outside research and resources to support the topics.
  • Actively promote and manage my podcast through the use of social media and drive some traffic towards it.
So far, I’ve enjoyed doing my podcast and I am two episodes in and everything is going well. I have received positive feedback about the content that I’ve put forth. I have been doing my show every two weeks so it can last throughout the semester and also because it’s only going to be about 7 episodes. I’m going to break down these objectives and talk about how each one has been going.
My show is every two weeks on Fridays at 7 p.m. which the first two dates have been September 2 and September 16 so that means the next one will be this Friday, September 30. So I’ve done my show live at 7 p.m. and they’re about 30 minutes long but I have to wait a half an hour until the top of the hour to get my show off the skimmer and edit it down so I can podcast it. Unfortunately, I have to wait until 8 p.m. because it appears on the skimmer at the top of every hour. It usually takes about 5 minutes to cut it down. I really just have to take out the music for the most points and any unnecessary pauses that I may do throughout the show.

Next, I upload my edited podcast to places like Pod bean and Soundcloud which helps me upload them to Facebook and Twitter which is where most of my followers are and interact. I’ve had trouble uploading it to iTunes but I will keep trying to do so and if I get it then I will upload all the episodes to that as well. I usually listen to my podcast after I upload it because I like to hear how I sound and if I sound confident and all. It’s kind of like grading myself and also realizing how I can make improvements as the next show airs.

I have been informing people about the decline and discipline shown by professional players through social media. I try to post things a couple of times a week or when something is big that is going on. Luckily, when I started my Big Quan Theory page, the anthem protest produced by San Francisco’s Quarterback Colin Kaepernick started when he was kneeling for the national anthem and receiving loads of backlash from a lot of people. Also had the thing with Ryan Lochte so I had a lot of content to go off of from the beginning but I also use Twitter to receive my news too because I follow sporting industries and people incorporated in the sports industry as well. I get my news from espn.com or somewhere like Bleacher Report, etc.

Using outside resources includes things like sports television shows and the Internet. I love watching sports and analyzing them so much that my TV stays on ESPN practically. I watch shows like SportsCenter (which is get my informational news), First Take: Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman (Debate Show), Undisputed: Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe (Debate Show), SportsNation (Debate Show), etc. I just live, breathe, eat and sleep sports and just consume it. I watch these shows daily and refer to some of these analyst whenever I conduct my podcast because they can sometimes be great resources and I just think that you sound more informative whenever you refer to higher and more trusted people in the sporting industry. I think it also helps enhance my knowledge about certain topics and can give me something more to go off of.

Lastly, I do manage my podcast through my social media because I upload it after every show and try my best to promote it. Like I’ve said before, I have received some pretty positive feedback with my show and it hasn’t necessarily came through social media but more of word of mouth which is more appreciative in my opinion. I do understand that majority of my followers are out of town (meaning St. George) but I have still have some people either call or text me telling me that I sound great and seem intelligent about my content that I’m relaying to the audience. My likes or comments do not truly show all the feedback that I’ve received but it is there and prevalent. I try to post the biggest things going on plus try and involve my followers for them to participate so they can feel welcome.

In the end, I’m loving everything that I’m producing and the feedback (whether positive or negative) that I’ve received. I will continue to try and improve the things that I am doing through social media and also with my actual show and podcast. This next show which will premiere this Friday, September 30, will include some special guests to be interviewed and also talk about all the controversial concepts that are happening in the world right now. Thank you guys for all your support and more great content coming soon.

Post Engagement: Updated 9-22-16

I have been busy lately posting important sporting news and plus the podcast on my social media pages (Facebook and Twitter) especially with all this all this anthem protest stuff going on around the world. Not only focusing on that but also other stories coming from the sporting industry. For example, NBA star Kevin Durant admits that he felt hurt after he left Oklahoma City and how the fans treated him and also how Warriors' Stephen Curry hasn't gotten over Game 7 of the NBA Finals yet. Anyway, here is how my updated post have been received. It's hard to tell on Twitter but I've had multiple talk to me in person and texting me about my podcast giving me feedback and I really appreciate it!

Insights on Facebook:

Twitter reception:

I look forward to continue to update as I go and want my show to keep improving as well even though I've gotten some great feedback. By the way, the next episode will premiere next Friday, September 30th and I will most likely have a guest on so stay tuned!

Post Engagement: Updated

In terms of my social media, my Facebook is doing well compared to my Twitter. I have less followers on Twitters but I did cross promotion to get the word out there. My podcast is being well-received because I feel like I am promoting it well and people are engaging and listening to it.

Here are my insights from Facebook (specifically the post results):

Now here are my post and engagement in Twitter:

Research Plan and Episode One of Podcast

1. Research via television and websites with sporting news and dissect the facts along with it.

2. Gathering all the relevant sporting news that is involved with my topic (lack of discipline show by professional athletes).

3. Break down the biggest stories that most people are currently talking about and offer my opinion.

4. Conduct interviews featuring local athletes here at Dixie State University and question them about how these stories affect them especially if it is someone who inspires them.

5. Post my podcast on all my social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) to share with everyone.

6. Analyze my data and the results of how my post do. Does it reach people? Do they encounter it and actually listen to it? What can I do better to cause more interaction?

Podcast: Episode One: Kaepernick's Oppression and Ninkovich's Suspension

Learning Objectives and Program Learning Outcomes

I posted my learning objectives last time but I will do it specifically on this one to dedicate this post to them. My learning objectives are as follows.

Learning Objectives
  • Apply my knowledge of Adobe 1.5 to edit down my show and touch it up.
  • Learn how to upload my podcast on Pod bean and share it on my Facebook and iTunes page.
  • Inform people about the decline of discipline shown by professional players.
  • Use outside research and resources to support the topics.
  • Actively promote and manage my podcast through the use of social media and drive some traffic towards it.
I will apply these objectives to the Program Learning Outcomes. The Program Learning Outcomes are Theory, Content Creation, Create Creation, Critical Thinking, Research, and Global Perspective.

Theory: Being in the radio program here at Dixie, I have to communicate to listeners in St. George and connect with students at Dixie. I'm also on the Cross Country team and have been for the last 4 years. I thought it was fitting to do a sports podcast because I love watching and participating in sports and love voicing my opinions and having conversations with others on the radio. Working in small groups when it comes to pod-casting is essential and can add some great content. Last semester I had a sports show with one of my friends on the radio and it was fantastic because we were able to bounce ideas off each other and it just added a lot of content and can be useful for business. Being able to have enthusiasm during a radio podcast is necessary because people want to hear some excitement in your voice otherwise people will turn the channel.

Content Creation: To reach my audience, I have created a Facebook, Twitter, and iTunes page to follow along with the podcast. To upload my podcast, I will use the application Pod bean to do so and then that will translate it to those various places. This way, it'll be easily accessible to my followers and hopefully it'll be shared beyond that and reach plenty of people. My method will be to inform people about the lack of discipline shown by professional athletes and how that affects the younger generation.

Critical Thinking: I feel like it'll be a challenge doing a solo podcast but I feel like if I have shorter episodes which will be about 15-20 minutes long, it won't drag on and as the show progresses, I'm sure I will find different ways to enhance the shows as time goes on. The problem solving in my opinion will come as my show develops and as I can learn about things to improve my show and this will be updated by the end of the semester.

Research: My research for my sports podcast will come from ESPN primarily to get most of my sports stories because they have more in depth information about athletes rather than scores and statistics. Once I have that, I will boggle down to the main points and that will help me prepare a lot better and offer my opinion and will sometimes bring guests on as well to conduct interviews. My interviews will include local athletes specifically at Dixie State and ask their opinions about the latest controversy going on in the sporting world at that time. For example, the biggest sports story going around is the Colin Kaepernick sitting down during the national anthem because he believes the U.S. is oppressing African Americans.

Global Perspective: Using social media is a perfect way to obtain my content to my audience and having several platforms will be a huge boost because at first I just had a Facebook page but Eric told me to widen my horizon and so that's why I created a Twitter (I don't personally like Twitter) and an iTunes because he told me that would be the easiest way to stream the podcast or download. Facebook and Twitter will specifically give me that voice to express myself and keep my listeners engaged at the same time.
